RAFFIA Raffia comes from Madagascar. What we get is the fibrous inner covering of the huge and delicate leaves of a palm of the genus Raphia. There is a great difference in raffia quality. The best is usually marketed as a hank and will be of a pale straw color.

Care should be taken if the material is to be used in costumes or their accessories as the raffia is not fireproofed.

EAST COAST RAFFIA

Produced on the east coast of Madagascar these smaller pig tails of raffia are slightly shorter. Some weavers prefer the tighter strands of raffia.
